Welcome to A Year in the Life of Faversham, a community photographic project featuring a year in the life of the picturesque town of Faversham (Kent). The idea behind it is to present 365 photographs of Faversham, one per day, taken over a year. The innovative project of both artistic and historical value shows the Faversham of today portrayed by photographers. Each photo shows a moment in time in the life of the town showing different views, styles and feelings. Photographs feature places and people of Faversham, as seen by its people and visitors. Portraits of Faversham personalities who agreed to be photographed for the project include Sir Bob Geldof, Jonathan Neame Executive of Shepherd Neame) and Ted Wilcox (Mayor of Faversham).
The cultural side of the project stimulates people to take part in local activities and helps communication and entertainment within the community. Various opportunities are offered to the contributors: - an exhibition that takes place in Faversham every other year. - a book is published, featuring all photographs displayed in the exhibition. - a competition is organised with the public voting for the top three photographs. Prizes are donated by sponsors. - various activities such as treasure hunts, quiz etc are organised. - this project gives an opportunity to help the Faversham Society and its Fleur de Lis museum to build on its existing photographic collection of Faversham with a range of contemporary images. The submitted photos will be stored as a social and historical record, for future heritage purposes.
